Job offer felt off after they wanted me to deposit a check for equipment

I was applying for remote jobs and got an email back from one. They told me to download Microsoft Teams and contact them through their email in the app. They asked for my name, email, phone number, and what position I was applying for. Then they sent me to another website to fill out an application.

After I set up an appointment for a second interview on Teams, I got a message saying I got the job. They sent me an offer letter and then said they wanted to send me money for equipment. But it was only through an emailed check that could only be direct deposit. They wanted me to confirm when it was done with a screenshot. I got the check for $250 less than my limit.

They kept telling me I had to be home to sign for the equipment. That didn't make sense. Why send me money for the equipment if you are also going to send the equipment? They never actually answer a direct question. They keep sending what looks like form letter responses. And anytime they send a message asking how I am doing, it comes through at 3 am.
