Got a threatening final notice text about my car registration

I got a text message saying it was a final notice from the Michigan Secretary of State. It said it was a final reminder for a payment. It said if full payment wasn't received by March 19, my vehicle registration would be revoked. It also said a violation would be recorded with the SOS, my driver's license would be suspended, and it would be referred to debt collections.

The text came from a phone number: (320) 349-1693. It said the address was MI, USA. I don't owe any money to the Secretary of State. This felt really off and threatening for something I didn't do. It didn't make sense.

Got a fake text saying my license will be suspended

I got a text saying it was a final notice from the Michigan Secretary of State. It said I had a traffic violation and my payment wasn't received. It said if I didn't pay by some date in 2026, my vehicle registration would be revoked and my driver's license suspended.

It told me to pay immediately through a payment portal link. The link looked weird, it was like michigan.gov-wgrs.bond/sos with a bunch of extra letters.

The whole thing felt off. I never got any prior notice about a violation. I just deleted the text immediately. The message came from a phone number with a (660) area code, which isn't even Michigan. It said the address was MI, USA but that's clearly fake.
