Hired and then let go on my first day because business is slow

I applied for a job with this company, they hired me and told me to come in. On my very first day the owner said he had to let me go because the location is too slow. He said he had a meeting with accounting and they don't want to keep paying for this location.

But they just hired me. Like, yesterday was my first day. So how does that make sense? It feels like a scam or a fraud business to me. The whole thing was misleading.
