Got a fake check in the mail for a mystery shopper job

I got a check in the mail for $3450. The instructions said to deposit it, then go buy $3000 in Sephora gift cards. The $450 was supposed to be my pay for being a mystery shopper.

The check looked real, honestly. But I called the bank it was supposed to be from. They told me it was fake. So I didn't deposit it or buy anything. It just came out of nowhere.
