Paid for airport transfer but got left stranded at the hotel

I paid Nexus Tours $22 each way for airport transfers in the Dominican Republic. Getting to the hotel was fine, but when I was leaving, it was a mess. I went out at the pickup time and a guy from the company was there, but he refused to take me because I wasn't on his "list". He said another bus was probably coming.

I waited over 50 minutes. Nothing. I was on the phone with a customer service rep who told me to just take a taxi because they couldn't reach their person at the hotel. He said I'd get a refund for the transfer. The taxi cost me another $40.

Now the company is saying I was marked as a no-show by their driver. They keep emailing me asking for "additional information" and won't refund anything. What more information do they need? I have no clue. They just keep repeating that, refusing to give me my money back for a service I never got. I think they did this because I didn't buy the private transfer they tried to upsell me.
