Hired for data entry job in 20 minutes with no interview

I sent an email for an application for their data entry specialist role, and was hired within 20 minutes with no phone call or zoom interview. That should have been my first sign something was off but I needed the work.

After a day of working I was told I’d get a $500 sign on bonus sent in the mail. When the check came it had instructions to not open it myself and to only let a bank teller handle it. I looked at it anyway and the amount was over $8,000 not the $500 they said. I called the number for HR at (888) 781-2666 to confirm my employment and ask about the check amount. They wouldn’t confirm I even worked there and just kept saying the check was real without asking me for any verification.
