Phone call asking for my social security and birth date over a small claims thing

Someone called me and said I needed to verify my information because somebody was taking me to small claims court. They wanted my social security number and my date of birth. I didn't give it to them.

It didn't feel right. Why would I need to give all that just to hear about a court case? They didn't say what company they were from or anything. Just that I had to verify.

I hung up. I don't know who it really was but it seemed like they were just trying to get my personal info.
