Got a fake email about renewing Norton, almost got scammed

I got an email on March 16, 2026, from someone named Gladys Lynch saying I needed to renew my Norton Professional for $410.49. The email said the charge would show up on my account.

I called the number they gave, 828-407-3544, and the person who answered said they were PayPal support. That felt wrong right away. They had me download the AnyDesk app and then they got into my PayPal and Coinbase accounts, which are linked to my bank.

I finally realized what was happening. I uninstalled AnyDesk, closed my PayPal account, and reported my debit card as lost to my bank. I also reset all my usernames and passwords. Luckily, no money was taken, but it was a really close call. The whole thing was stressful.
