Job offer email with a fake check for social media manager

I got an email about some contract work for a construction company. They wanted a Social Media Manager. The director guy told me I would get a check in the mail and to deposit it into my bank account.

So I went to cash the check and the bank told me it was counterfeit. I didn't lose any money because I didn't deposit it but still. The email came from [email protected] and the phone number was (901) 209-9475. They had an address in St. George, KS.

Just felt weird that they would send a check before I even did any work.
