QR code site deactivated mine after a week, wants $20 a month

I found this site qrfy.com that said it was for free QR codes. I got one and used it. Then after exactly 7 days, they just deactivated it. My code stopped working. To get it working again, they said I have to pay them $20 every month. That wasn’t mentioned anywhere when I got the code. I feel like I was tricked. The whole thing cost me over a hundred dollars because I set things up with that code. Now it’s useless unless I keep paying.
