Job offer turned into a fake check scam for car wrap

I got a check in the mail for $3990.80 from some company. They told me to deposit it into my bank and wait for it to clear. Then I was supposed to keep $800 for myself and send $3150 to some decal guy to get a wrap on my car to promote Reign energy drinks. They said I would get paid $800 every week for 12 weeks.

So I went on the Reign website to check it out because it felt strange. They said they do not put advertisements on personal vehicles and this is a scam. They said in a few weeks my bank would contact me to let me know the check did not clear and I would be stuck with the whole $3990. I did not lose any money because I called them first but it was pretty convincing at first.
