Booked a hotel room through what looked like the real site

I went to what I thought was the Embassy Suites by Hilton Houston near the Galleria website. They posted the booking information on the hotel website, so I thought it was legit. I put in my card and everything.

Ended up losing $818.24. The phone number on the site was (800) 434-1659 and the email was [email protected]. The address they listed was in UT, USA.

Never got a room or anything. Just a charge on my card and no way to get it back.

Complete misrepresentation

I desired to book 3 nights at Apache Casino Hotel to celebrate my grandson's graduation from basic training/army. I had found travelcity, booking.com, trivago adds and since I could not ask if there were Veteran's or Senior discounts, I contacted the site on the actual website of the hotel and was connected with reservationdesk.com staff. They said they were going to give me an exclusive deal of $173.00US but I stated that I had found better deals and was not going to pay $173.00 but would agree to $159.00 per night. The woman left to speak with someone then returned and said that the best they could do was to charge us $160.00 per night so we agreed. Then she said the total was going to be $590.44 which seemed too high. I questioned this with my husband listening on the speaker. She stated that taxes were $110.00, which also seemed too high. We were not told of anything about fees. Then I received the itinerary and receipt and saw that they had billed us for $172.50 per night instead of $160.00, therefore I called immediately and spoke with a man, Sam who listened to the issue. He left and returned with a possible $164.00 for a smaller accommodation to which we did not accept. I said that we were told and confirmed $160.00 per night and need this to be honored, yet he was unable to and then he wanted us to stay at a cheaper place. This did not work. I stated that if they were not going to honor what we were told, then please cancel. I liked Sam. He was able to provide me a written confirmation of the cancellation, but this agency does not honor their own quotes and are not providing the consumer the best deals. They lied about taxes, fees, and the nightly rate. Beware.

Booked a hotel and they said it was refundable but it wasn’t

I booked a hotel through reservationdesk.com and their website said it was fully refundable if you cancel within 24 hours. So I changed my mind and tried to cancel like an hour later.

The receipt I got said the cancellation cut off date was three days before I even made the purchase. That makes no sense. I reported it as fraud to my credit card company and they did try to get the refund for me. I lost $255.00 and the company is in AB, Canada.
