Letter about student loan consolidation with no real government link

I got a letter in the mail about consolidating my student loans. It looked like it was from the FSA.gov program, you know, the real government one. So I called the number on it, (800) 204-0166, and they already had my SSN and all my loan info. That made me think they were legit.

They wanted a service fee of $999.00 but said I could spread it into 3 payments. Asked for my bank account and routing number. I just gave it to them without thinking because all their paperwork looked right. But after I finished everything, something just didn’t feel right. So I looked them up and found out I was scammed. I called them out on it and took action right away so they couldn’t take anything. So far nothing’s been taken.
