Caller said my wife owed old debt and threatened lawsuit

Someone called saying my wife had some debt from 11 years ago. I don’t even know what they were talking about. They said it was from Smart Connect Companies but I never heard of them before.

They wouldn’t send anything in writing no matter how many times we asked. Then they got pushy and said if she didn’t pay right then they’d file a $3,000 lawsuit against her. She got scared and ended up giving them $896 over the credit card.

The charge on the card shows SMART CONNECT COMPANIES. I think this is some kind of scam ring.
