Job application asked me to pay for a credit score and background check

I got a text and email from someone saying I needed to finish more steps for a job application. They asked me to get my credit score and do a background check. They said I would get refunded for the credit score after everything was done.

So I paid $35 for it. Now I haven't heard anything back and no refund. The email they used was [email protected] and the phone number was (510) 815-9094. The address they gave was in Baltimore, WV. It just doesn't feel right.
