Pulled over because Rent-A-Car didn't pay the taxes on the car

So I got pulled over by the police the other day. I was driving a car I rented from Rent-A-Car, and the cop tells me the property taxes on the vehicle were never paid. I almost got taken to jail right there because of their negligence.

I tried calling the number they gave me, (855) 619-3569, and I emailed [email protected] but nobody is really helping. They sent me a letter from 4126 Triangle Dr Charlotte, NC but it doesn't make sense. I lost about $150.00 on this whole thing and I'm just frustrated. The owner of the vehicle just didn't take care of what they were supposed to.
