Charged for a subscription I never signed up for after a $1 purchase

I bought a $1 VIN check from vinhistoryusa.com. I was never told it would also sign me up for a subscription. I didn't agree to that at all. My credit card company was sort of helpful but they said they couldn't cancel the subscription for me.

I tried to call and email the company to cancel. The phone number they give for cancellations is a dead line. No one ever replied. They charged me three times before I could even figure it out.

I had to get those charges reversed. But even now, I'm not sure if it's really stopped. I might just have to cancel my card to be safe.
