I tried to rent a place called "Piney Creek Retreat" on VRBO. The host texted me and asked me to go around VRBO and rent directly from them. They wanted me to cancel my reservation with VRBO. If I did that, I would have lost the money I already paid and they would have kept it.
I didn't cancel. I contacted VRBO instead and they gave me my payments back. They said they are looking into this listing. I saw the same property is listed on Airbnb too.
The day after VRBO fixed it, I started getting scam phone calls. The call back numbers are scam numbers. I don't know why.
